A Sunny Escape to St. Barths

Pierre Carreau via St. Barths

Sometimes an image brings back a favorite moment in time, like this one I spotted on Pinterest.

Favorite places, spaces, memories, future plans and dreaming......

I think that's why some of us are practically addicted to our Pinterest virtual pin boards.

My boards here

I saw some images from Pamela Fiori's beautiful coffee table book, 'In The Spirit of St. Barths', on pinterest and was

reminded how much I adore the look and feel of a coffee table book, especially when it reflects one of my favorite places.

With all this beauty available at our finger tips (no computer needed!)

As for St. Barths.............

This was one of those moments, at St. Jean Beach, on the Island of St. Barths.

It's been nearly 10 years-but if I close my eyes I can remember that exact moment.

Pure Bliss

(peace, tranquility...not a care in the world)

It was a wonderful trip for us and the first time enjoying the beauty of the Caribbean together.

There is something magical about those sugar sand beaches.

We were kids!

Those 9+ years have gone by in a flash.....but my memories of that place in time I'll have forever.

Thanks to Pinterest, coffee table images and photo albums. When was the last time you felt it-bliss?

Wishing you more of those moments this week.

Birthday in Paradise at Zoetry in Dominican Republic!

I've always been secretly happy that my birthday is on July 15th and smack dab in the middle of summer. It means I've never had to go to school and usually not to work on my birthday.

This year the timing was perfect for my birthday as we are enjoying our last couple of days in the tropical paradise of Dominican Republic.

My favorite birthday companion #spoiled me a bit

With a significant number of difficulties marking the beginning of our trip this phase at Zoetry Agua has been completely sublime.

This little guy has kept us company during breakfast on our terrace.

Some spa time made the birthday girl very happy.

I'm not politically minded and I thought it was fun to see that Jon Stewart had 'favorited' one of my tweets.

Our dinner with some of our new fabulous friends from the pool. We laughed and bombed out at a merengue dance lesson together later.

Thanks for making my birthday perfect and hopefully we will all end up at Zoetry again someday!

I just wanted to say a quick thank you for so many lovely birthday wishes on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and text.

I feel truly blessed this year that my world has expanded in so many

incredible ways. The connections I've made with Stylemindchic Life mean the world to me.

Happy Birthday to my lovely mom today! Though we are separated by distance our birthdays always

stand side by side (she always tells me I was an early birthday present).

Looking forward to celebrating together.

Thanks for stopping by Stylemindchic Life!

Can't wait to catch up with everyone on our return.

xx,

Paradise Found at Zoetry Agua in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

The pool at Zoetry Agua Punta Cana (photos mine)

If you've been following Stylemindchic blog, and this journey to Punta Cana, you know that the early part of our trip was not an easy one. We had more than our share of delays due to the plane crash and lost luggage for days. We finally got our luggage and swimsuits when a tropical storm was forecast so the pool and beach were closed.  There were challenges all around......(and a few bright spots too-an unexpected night in Manhattan and Juan at the spa, Clare and Carlos at Secrets-thank you).

As of yesterday we have finally arrived at our true paradise. Zoetry Agua Punta Cana here is pure relaxation, tranquility and zen bliss. We finally feel rested for the first time and intend to make use of every moment of the rest of our vacation. I will post more on this incredible place and if you are seeking relaxation, peace, luxury, privacy, gorgeous beaches with a healthy vibe this could be your place too. So far our favoritedestination ever.

If you are interested in Zoetry Agua as a special destination (and reduced rates up to 25% off)  email me at heatherhasit@comcast.net.

We are excited to learn we can share our discount on this and all Zoetry, Secrets, Dreams and Now

properties with you, our friends.

And now, back to my vacation

(although posting from our thatched roofed terrace overlooking the lazy river and ocean is my idea of the perfect spot!).

My view from the terrace

Happy summer and safe travels! I look forward to catching up on all of your beautiful and

inspiring blogs in the very near future.

Paradise not yet found.....(or unpacking is easy when your luggage is lost)!

(The last time I saw my luggage-3.5 days ago)

As with all things in life, sometimes there are bumps in the road or the sky. Despite perfecting the packing list and careful planning (as in my previous post) the unexpected often happens.

It's a funny thing, I woke up Saturday morning of our departure to the Caribbean with a feeling of discomfort, almost dread. I usually feel elated and excited on a travel day so this was weird.  I knew we had 3 flights ahead of us and I was uneasy. I even mentioned it to my husband, Scott, casually. Not serious enough to cancel the trip....but....not good. I flipped on the TV around 2 pm and was shocked to see images of a fiery plane crash at San Francisco International Airport. I knew that was exactly where we were scheduled to touch down for the first leg of our journey later that afternoon. Intuition? Maybe? That still small voice....?  I was seeing my fear in full color on a flat screen.

As the day progressed we were finally able to fly into SFO. We passed directly over the tangled, twisted wreckage and felt somber realizing the loss of life that had occurred earlier. We felt fortunate to get into SFO until we realized there was almost no getting out. All but a handful of flights were cancelled, including ours to DC. Customer service was a long snaking line with travelers camped on the ground. We waited in line, and were on hold with the busy signal, but as I watched the board with the final flights ticking off, I knew I needed to try something different. Rumor had it that the rebooked flights were scheduled for two to three days later.  I figured if there were flights leaving, that weren't full, we should try to get on one. To almost anywhere...get out and figure it out.

The NYC flight was leaving at 12:50 a.m. so I ran to two different gates to ask about getting on a standby flight. My best tip-lead with a smile, or concern, but not a bitchy attitude. Bitchy doesn't usually get it done (at least until later).  The lovely off duty agent was willing to give it a try. We raced to the gate to standby to the NYC flight (our luggage was headed to D.C.). It was nip and tuck but we were thrown on the flight with a 'we'll figure it out later' goodbye. We sat for 2 hours on the runway at SFO and watched our window to connect with a flight to the Dominican Republic disappear. The turbulence on the fight was so bad that my husband, Scott, seated a row in front of me reached across the seat to hold my hand (for his sake I think). When we finally arrived in Newark we discovered we were not booked until the next day to our destination. We were tired and dirty, with no luggage, in Newark with a day to kill. What better idea than get a room, clean up and head to Manhattan for dinner? #don't care if you are tired let's adventure

Quick shower, same clothes back on, and it was back on the shuttle, back to the tram andonto the train to the fabulous Manhattan. Hot and muggy-they were having a heat wave (and frankly, without luggage and my supplies, I was having aheatwave of my own#I'm 51) but never mind-we love NYC!

We delighted in the unplanned afternoon in Noho and Soho, and landed at Picolla Cucina here, on Prince Street. A little slice of Italian heaven to our exhausted, hungry, sweaty selves.
Drip...drip....

My new best friends in Soho, Marco, Filippo (and Fabulous).

They spoiled us with gourmet delights, water, wine, warmth and charm. Thank you for a memorable evening. Kisses on both cheeks and we were off. Back on the train, back on the tram, back on the shuttle. Sleep like there's no tomorrow, but up at 5:00 am (which feels like 2 am to us).  Shuttle to the airport to realize we've been booked to the Dominican Republic on 2 separate flights. I felt a bit choked up on that one...#@$^ really? After paying for a night in Newark just as we lost a paid night in Punta Cana, now this? Don't want to be bitchy but I will definitely play the concerned card. Finally booked, on the later flight, together. Seats together and we are on our way.

Day 3, no luggage,  same dress, shoes, don't ask.....at least you can  wash and dry theskivvies in the sink overnight. What Ilearned- always pack your necessities in the carry on. More on that later.

Check back for the next stage of our travel odyssey.

Thank you for stoppingby-Stylemindchic is not feeling so 'chic'  in the third day of travel with no luggage, but it's always an adventure. We are certainly grateful to besafe and sound.

Bon Voyage (and pack your essentials in your carry on bags loves!).

Seeking Sun and Sizzle in the Dominican Republic!

In my mind there are no perfect words to describe this kind of beauty.

I can barely wait to run along the powdery sands and splash around in the

shimmering turquoise sea.

We are putting the finishing touches on our packing today then Scott and I are headed out to the

stunningly beautiful island of  Dominican Republic. We've traveled to the Caribbean before

(Saint Martin, Barbados, St. Barths, St. Lucia, Puerto Rico,  Riviera Maya, Cozumel) but

this island is a new adventure for us.

We will be staying at Secrets Royal Beach here and then move to Zoetry Agua here, both in Punta Cana.

Both resorts are part of the Unlimited Vacation Club which we joined last summer.

We appreciate the superb service, attention to detail and the luxurious settings

(did I just write that? Okay-we like a little luxury on occasion).

I know, I proclaimed that I packed twice as much as I needed for my previous beachy vacation but I

absolutely couldn't resist these little gold numbers from Calvin Klein

(and they came in every color under the sun) from Zappos.

Calvin Klein - Jacky (Platino Tumbled Metallic Leather) - Footwear

On a completely inconsequential note, I'm trying out the blue green polish trend (finally!). I think it was a trend 3 years ago, but sometimes I'm slow.

I don't know why bright orange or red toenails seem natural to me but not the blue green shades which are my favorite colors in other parts of my life.

This one is Essie 'Turquoise & Caicos'.

Husband's verdict is yes. I'm still deciding......#not rocket science

Though we definitely plan to unplug and unwind I won't be able to resist posting some tropical shots of paradise on Instagram.

Follow along on my Instagram feed here (or the Instagram Gallery located in the right column of  the blog).

Whether you are traveling like us or enjoying some 'staycation' at home this weekend

enjoy every moment!

Thanks for stopping by today. You make my day!

How To Pack for a Tropical Vacation

Color pop

We are gearing up for summer time travel in our house and I'm thinking about how to pack for a tropical vacation. Though I love to travel I find packing to be a challenge. It's like doing a puzzle and I'm trying to predict how I want the pieces to fit a week from now on a Caribbean Island. I'll admit it, I've grown into a consummate over packer.  Frankly, blogging has not helped, with all the potential fashion and outfit posts (of which I actually post almost none).#lazy

In planning for our upcoming 10-day Caribbean vacation I decided to do a  post-mortem on my packing from our spring getaway to Los Cabos. I remember over packing to the extreme, despite my best planning.

here

This was my resort closet at Secrets Marquis in San Jose del Cabo.

Almost half of these pieces I didn't even wear.

Here are my tips as I review my visual list:

*When packing for a summertime getaway-less is definitely more.
*If it's hot or humid I tend to wear swimsuits, cover-ups, maxis and caftans almost exclusively.
*Pack fewer pairs of panties & bras
*When it's hot we have less need for night wear #go naked#enough said.
*Accessorize/change things up with fun and chunky jewelry (cocktail rings are my favorite) here.
*Dinnertime at resorts can be dressy, but a pretty pair of flats is usually all you need.  I'll take one pair of heeled sandals, for when I'm in the mood, but you can skip them altogether.

*Anything too structured or tight, however stylish, won't be comfortable in humidity. Flowy and breathable always wins in the tropics.

*Hats are essential. I took two on this trip, both a stylish fedora for touring, and a big floppy black hat for sun protection at the pool.

*Hit your local drug store for travel sizes of mini lotions, toothpaste, deodorant, facial cloths and mini antacids to combat any over indulgences of the food and drink variety. Band aids, aspirin, insect repellent (or use essential oils here)and neosporin gel for cuts or scrapes are on my travel kit list. Sunscreen is a must!

Pretty travel cases are essentials for me. These are some of my favorites from my

Most of us are hooked on technology these days. I remember wondering why I would ever want a phone with a camera included. Now I don't know how I would manage without my iPhone and I rarely use it for phone calls.

I do plan to unplug for most of our vacation but I will:

*Download some good reads onto the iPad and kindle.
*Make space on the iPhone for more tropical photos.
*Get our playlists ready for vacation mode music.

I use spotify or pandora when I'm home, but since wifi can be tricky on vacation, I will also download some tunes for the trip.

Other 'Must-do's:

*Pedicure

*House sitter

*Mail pickup

*Passports/Paperwork

Most certainly, don't forget the shades!!

Dear Self, All this lazing around this swanky poolside and under the beach palapas could make you get used to this deluxe life in Paradise. The powdery sands and turquoise seas are beguiling. The rhythm of the waves lulls you to sleep each night in the frette linens of your perfect canopy bed.  The sultry breeze blows your hair in just the right beachy wave, perfectly styled by mother nature.   At the airport you and your 'lover' (aka husband of 11 years) are whisked away by private car to the heart of Paradise at Secrets Maroma Beach.  You are warmly greeted with chilled cloths, your favorite libations and smiling staff saying 'welcome home'. You could get used to this. Here in Paradise there is no such thing as laundry, dishes or even making your own bed. In fact, with the turn down service you don't even have to turn down your own covers. Those delightful little chocolates never appear on your pillow at home. The biggest question of the day~beach or poolside? Naps are not only an option, they are encouraged here in Paradise. Need a towel for that lounge chair? The kindly staff  member will lay it out for you and give you an extra as a pillow. "The pleasure is ours" he says. Smile....the pleasure is really all yours. Love from Paradise, me

PS-Mailman-please forward my mail-I'm moving in!! And now, back to life in Paradise... our 7 course breakfast is about to be delivered to our suite. Then off to swim and nap, repeat.....Dinner beach side tonight to celebrate a birthday. Far too soon it's back to real life-bills, dishes and laundry. I do look forward to posting the winner of the Giveaway on Monday!

 Cheers from paradise,
