I first spotted 'Jewels of the Vineyard' bracelets while browsing a boutique in Napa Valley, with blogger friends, last spring. The sumptuous leathers, saturated colors and metallic finishes of the pieces caught my eye. They exude a luxurious, yet rustic, vibe. The line is a labor of love by artist Cheryl Thompson. Her mediums include oil painting, fabric painting and ceramics, as well as jewelry making. I recently enjoyed a conversation with Cheryl and it's clear that her passion for the wine country, and designing unique, hand-crafted jewelry, are equally at play in creating her distinctive line. In her Yountville studio Cheryl's hope is to "express the beauty of the person" who will eventually wear her pieces.
Cheryl has aptly named each of her jewelry collections after a region in Napa Valley. The names Stag's Leap Collection, Spring Mountain Collection, St. Helena Collection, Oakville Collection, Calistoga Collection, and Carneros Collection bring back fond memories for me from the years I lived in, or near, Napa Valley. Each collection has a distinct flavor, much like the wine grapes grown in the different regions of this quintessential wine country.
Cheryl has searched the world for unique leathers, beads and embellishments. The 'Regaliz' leathers from Spain are all about drenched colors, shine and a luxurious feel. I have huge affection for Spain, after spending our summer holiday enjoying its beauty. From the moment I saw it, I knew the 'Regaliz' leather had my name on it.
As you can see, Cheryl's creativity leads to a variety of styles. Chains, crystals, beads and animal print are the embellishments for some of my favorite pieces. 'Jewels of the Vineyard' also has a line of leather bracelets for men, perfect for gift giving this season. With so many gorgeous pieces, I had a hard time choosing just one.
Eventually I settled on this beauty:
My bracelet arrived late last week and I looked forward to wearing it to the 'Christmas Preview' Sunday night in Chico. The golden tones are equally beautiful on summer skin, as well as skin that's lost some color in the fall, as mine has. The mixed metal accents Cheryl selected add an edgy vibe. I'm super pleased with my choice and I think this bracelet is a knockout! It fastens with a strong magnetic closure which makes it easy to put on or take off, by yourself, which I find essential in a bracelet.
My bracelet was a hit at Christmas Preview and I received several compliments on it.
At a fashionable new boutique, Syllabus, owned by Aveed Khaki, I recognized the widely popular blogger, Alicia Lund, of Cheetah is the New Black. Alicia, who grew up in Chico, made her way to New York, and now San Francisco, as a sought after stylist and blogger. My new 'Jewels of the Vineyard' bracelet received a thumbs up from Alicia, and she is a true style expert.
Are you in the 'making a list and checking it twice' season like I am?
'Jewels of the Vineyard' Bracelets will make a memorable gift for you or someone you love.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
