The Transportive Quality of a Great Read with Kristy Woodson Harvey
I'm a sucker for an accent, especially a southern drawl. I'm sure my fondness for the sounds and pace of life in the south comes from my dad, born and bred in Pickens, South Carolina. I remember several visits to the south and being enamored with the gentle breezes, slower pace, and friendliness of the place.
When it comes to reading, I gravitate towards books that transport me to my faraway places, such as Italy or Paris, but I've recently added the South to my collection of favorite reading destinations, thanks to my most recent read.

Kristy Woodson Harvey - Author
I'm excited to introduce my blog friend, and best-selling author, Kristy Woodson Harvey and her latest novel, Slightly South of Simple. Kristy is getting lots of buzz for this latest release -- part family, part design, part southern charm -- and it is well-deserved. I became acquainted with Kristy and her mom, Beth, through their super stylish blog, Design Chic.
You will never catch me reading sci-fi, but I am captivated by a story about relationships. Kristy captures the voices of a mother and 3 grown daughters in an authentic way. I would describe Slightly South of Simple as a sunny day at the beach, with a few menacing, cloudy twists. I'm glad to hear this magnetic read is the first of a series on this family of strong, independent women, landing again in Peach Tree Bluff. I loved it! Kristy's book is a perfect Mother's Day gift for the women in your life!
The next “major voice in Southern fiction” (New York Times bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand), Kristy Woodson Harvey, introduces her novel SLIGHTLY SOUTH OF SIMPLE, which chronicles the journeys of three sisters and their mother.
- Elin Hilderband
Kristy's writing has appeared in numerous publications and websites, including Southern Living, Traditional Home, Domino, Houzz and Our State. She has been seen in Readers' Digest, Women's Health, The Washington Post, Dr. Oz The Good Life, The Huffington Post, USA Today's Happy Every After and North Carolina Bookwatch, among others. She lives in North Carolina with her husband and five-year-old son where she is working on her next novel.- Bio

My Fantasy Dinner Party: Joining 'By Invitation Only'

My Fantasy Dinner Party
I've been asked to share my fantasy dinner party.
Who would I invite?
My fantasy dinner party will be held in Italy and definitely somewhere near the water. I'd have to choose between Positano and Lake Como--each classic Italian beauties--and on my itinerary for summer travel in 2016.
My guests will arrive by water taxi.
I've employed a handsome driver.
We will enjoy rooftop terrace cocktails and views before dinner.
The tables are graced with candlelight
voluptuous blooms
and glowing chandeliers.
The champagne is flowing...
and I will be wearing sparkles.
My guest list:
George Clooney
I graciously invited Amal, but unfortunately she had a previous commitment.
(Pity--but this is MY fantasy after-all!)
John F. Kennedy, Jr. + Carolyn too
George, John, Di and I are all roughly the same age. I think it would be fun to get the 'birthday club' together to see how we are all feeling about hitting the big 55 this year.
Sophia Loren - Style icon of la dolce vita.
Diane Von Furstenberg- I love her verve and her stories.
She's a lady who dishes!
Photographer Slim Aarons to capture the magic of the party in images.
Sting- one of my favorites in concert.
He must bring his guitar but his shirt is optional.
Cutting edge chef Massimo Bottura and his wife, Lara Gilmore, owners of Bottura and Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy for unique tastes for dinner. I'm fascinated with his culinary talents on Chef's Table Netflix and this clip is a must see.
Of course Scott, my beloved, is my +1 for this fantasy dinner party.
And there will be dancing until the sun comes up...
George Clooney Lives Next Door?
I am so pleased to join "By Invitation Only" hosted by Marsha of Splendorosa and the other fabulous bloggers each month.
Who would YOU invite to your fantasy dinner party?
Cheers to a little fantasy ever now and then.
Let's Get it Started in Here (my first blog post)!
Let's get it started in here with sunset from our deck tonight.
It all begins with that first step, being the water baby I am, I'll plunge right in.
Today I'm inspired by the color yellow, so fresh and cheery, even on the rainiest of days. I had to have some yellow in designing my blog today. Putting together styles, colors, fonts, photographs and working to create the right vibe. I'm sure it will be a work in progress.
I'm loving Pinterest and the ever-present inspirations for everything under the sun.

I have a few favorite blog writers that I've been following (but without a blog home had no where to invite them to visit). I will share those soon and hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
For now it's Saturday night and I'll share the view from our terrace for some natural inspiration.
Cheers,
Heather
